The Spirit of Portland public sculpture was commissioned by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and unveiled on 18th Aug. 2000. It celebrates Portland’s people, life and traditions which are closely bound with its environment and elements; Stone, Sea and Wind.

Green Man

Large White Boar: one of the specimens bred at the agricultural college Kingston Maurward, Dorchester. This was a welcoming stone to the visitors' centre.

Black Rhinoceros: a travelling exhibit piece for the Memo Project, shown here standing outside St. Paul’s Cathedral London. This animal is now an extinct species from the rhinoceros family carved in Portland stone.

Janus

Reclaimed stone gateposts at Fairfield Orchard MM entrance stone feature to The Fairfield Community Orchard, Lancaster. The Project was a Millennium regeneration programme to transform disused and overgrown farmland.

Headstone

Carved slate plaque with gold inlay

Wedding Table

Designed and carved personally in the Romanesque-Gothic style. The Table has a glass top covering an inscription in Versal letter form with the excerpt ‘dreaming when dawns left hand is in the sky’ from Omar Khayam.

Profile and CV

Biography: Sculptor / Lettercutter Fine Art BA (Hons) University of the West of England, Advanced Diplomas in Architectural Carving / Masonry / Lettercutting Weymouth College, PGCE in Post Compulsory Education, Plymouth University.

All projects are personally designed and executed. Experienced with other classical sculptural techniques; metal, bronze, brass, clay, wood, modelling and construction. Latterly most works have been produced in stone, often on a monumental scale, creating Public Sculpture, Memorials & Plaques as well as private commissions and teaching.

I have taught Art / Carving / Lettering in various institutions at all levels Beginner to Degree Level and have also organised and run workshops in varied settings (community, public, children, artists).
